Delimitation of the St. Petersburg urban agglomeration

The article presents the results of the analysis of structure and boundary changes of the St. Petersburg metropolitan area between 2005 and 2015. In this research criteria which help to define residential areas and settlements as parts of the various zones of urban agglomeration by using open sources was developed. It was found that the area of the first zone of the St. Petersburg metropolitan area is approximately 20 % larger than the same area defined in the Master Plan of St. Petersburg in 2005. Territory and configuration of the St. Petersburg agglomeration core during this period did not essentially change. Refs 10. Figs 3.
